Reflections on My Lyon College Convocation Speech: "Unsubscribe"

As a native Arkansan and an academic who has dedicated my life to social justice and advocacy, I was honored to speak at Lyon College's spring convocation in March. The opportunity to share my message of liberation through the "Unsubscribe" philosophy with students, faculty, and staff was a deeply meaningful experience for me.

The Importance of Liberation

At the heart of my message was the concept of liberation for people of color. As I shared with the audience, this is a longstanding and deeply entrenched problem in our society. We are conditioned to believe certain things about ourselves and our place in society that are not true. These false beliefs, in turn, hold us back from achieving our full potential.

Through the "Unsubscribe" philosophy, I aim to help people of color liberate themselves from the societal forces that have been holding them down. By questioning the narratives that have been imposed on us, we can begin to see ourselves and our communities in a new light. We can begin to create a new reality that is rooted in our own experiences and perspectives.

The Role of Community

People of color are often isolated and marginalized in society, which can make it difficult for us to find the support and resources we need to achieve our goals. That's why the "Unsubscribe" philosophy seeks to create a supportive community of like-minded individuals who are all working towards the same goal of liberation.

During the Q&A session after my speech, I was heartened to see how many students and staff members were eager to engage with this message of community and liberation. We discussed ways to build stronger networks of support within the Lyon College community and beyond. It was a reminder that we are all in this struggle together, and that by working together, we can achieve our goals.

The Power of Education

As an academic, I firmly believe in the power of education to effect social change. Lyon College is an institution that understands this power and is committed to providing its students with the tools they need to make a positive impact on the world. I was deeply impressed by the thoughtful questions and comments from students and staff during the Q&A session.

At the end of the day, my message is one of hope and empowerment. We all have the power to liberate ourselves and to create the world we want to see. I encourage you to watch my Lyon College convocation speech to learn more about the "Unsubscribe" philosophy and how it can help us all achieve our full potential.
